Little Trayaksh and One YearA first year, raised our own way

Published on Trayaksh's first birthday, this is the story of his first year — written by two first-time parents raising a baby in London without the extended family that usually surrounds an Indian household.

In place of the aunties, grandmothers and inherited rules, we had each other, the NHS, research papers, parenting communities and long late-night conversations with ChatGPT. This book is the honest record of what we ate, what we tried, what we refused, and a boy with long jet-black hair and brown eyes who was walking at eight months.

We did not have the village. We built one out of evidence, instinct and a lot of 3am reading.

What's inside

  1. Part one

    Before he arrived

Nutrition through the pregnancy — what mum ate week by week, the supplements and the foods that were dropped, scan-by-scan precautions, movement and rest, and which pieces of traditional advice we set aside and why.

  2. Part two

    The fourth trimester

Feeding, sleep, skin and that famous head of hair. Building a routine from scratch, oil massage and bathing done our way, and the newborn customs we chose not to follow — along with what it cost us to say no.

  3. Part three

    Movement first

Tummy time from week one, floor-led play instead of walkers and seats, the toys that actually earned their place, swimming and outdoor time — and how all of it added up to independent steps in month eight.

  4. Part four

    Our own way

Parenting without elders in the room: using ChatGPT and online communities as a second opinion, filtering social media advice, handling the pressure from home, and what we would tell the next couple doing this alone.

The year in short

  1. Month 3

    Head up, hands busy

Daily tummy time and floor play from the first weeks.

  2. Month 5

    Rolling both ways

Movement-first routine over long stretches in a seat.

  3. Month 8

    First independent steps

Walking unaided — early, and entirely baby-led.

  4. Month 11

    Confident on set

Climbing, carrying, and holding eye contact with the lens.

  5. 24 Sep 2026

    First birthday

And the release day of his first-year book, Little Trayaksh and One Year.
